Introspection

I'm not going super crazy deep here, but I've had some thoughts/quotes/insights rolling around in my head.  If you follow my pinterest then you know I love me some thought provocation and then humor in the next breath.

Learn to be content without being complacent.

There aren't enough days in your life to do something that makes you miserable.

Fight for the positive, don't dwell on the negative.

There we go, that's what I have been thinking about.  I just finished up with two tests last week, three this week, and am looking towards two more next week.  Those professors are keeping me hopping!  I rode Gigi and Gunner today.  Gigi was super duper and Gunner was pretty good (he began with an aversion to my spurs*).

*Sprinklerbandit found an extra pair of roller ball spurs.  I have been waxing on about how I want to try them so she brought them with to the barn, woot woot!

So many fun happenings!

Do I need to be studying for a Molecular Biology of Cancer class? Yes.  So it seems like a perfect time to finally update my blog.  I've been slacking I know, but my house is cleaner and my long time friend who lives in Georgia is in town!  Also I was baking up a storm of pies for thanksgiving. YUM!

I was able to ride all of last week, Yeah!  But now it is raining and that is supposed to continue through tomorrow and then by thursday our lows are supposed to be in single digits.

The clipper monster

So I forgot to mention that we finally found out what gets Diva's goat.  Clippers.

Yup she looked like this guy (who is a total diva, I may or may not have used to watch ANTM)

After our great ride on Sunday I untacked in the cross ties and then went to clip her whiskers.  I turned them on, no response.  I put them near her nose, no response.  Now she is off the track and our racehorses can be clipped without a halter, bad news, she wasn't in our barn.  I touched her nose with the clippers and cut exactly one hair and she went all:

I have never seen her get worked up beyond a twitchy ear.  Needless to say, she still has whiskers.  I will me adding clippers to my brush bucket and she will be getting rubbed with them everyday.

I rode Bridger on Monday and he finally stood still at the mounting block, win!

I rode Diva tonight and she was fun as usual.  We worked on w/t/c and got the right lead on the first try!  Then we worked on standing still, very difficult indeed.  She seems to have gotten it into her head that since she is the best at lots of things that she no longer needed to stand on a long rein, or ground tie.  By the end of the ride she was standing still, and when we untacked the leadrope was on the ground and she didn't take a step, yeah for brains!

Normalcy?

I don't even know what that is.  The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of fun with mi madre in town.  Lots of riding, lots of shopping, lots of friends, and oh yeah lots of school.  I managed to pull a 96% on an anatomy and physiology lab exam, woot woot!  I've had some good rides on the misses Diva and Gigi.  I've still been riding Gunner as well and his flat work is really coming along.

My three are all getting their feet done on either Friday or Saturday, yeah!  Diva has grown enough hoof that I think her feet will look really good with new shoes.  Also planning a trail ride with friends for Friday evening, I can't wait!  Finally here is a preview for the next post:

I have to thank you all for the sweet comments, they really reflect my own thoughts on the situation.  A day later and I feel much less emotional, but hold strong to my flat work for now stand.  Kitty Kat said it well, 'some horses jump as a hobby, not a job.'  I think that explains Gunner well.  A fun few jumps now and then yes, jumping with the pressure of a goal?  No.

Totally random here, I started and showed a 4 year old last year that ended up getting sold to a fancy barn in southern California and my mom just found some pictures she got at our last show together.  He was a total joy to ride.

So I'm getting ready to head out for my rounds of evening chores and I'm thinking if all seems quiet Bridger and I will go for a romp (probably not a good choice of words here) around the new place.  Grinning.  They all seem so calm and settled, why not?

 Also, it is so smokey right now...bleck, meaning any shenanigans should be short lived due to lack of oxygen in our lungs.

I jumped Gunner yesterday, there were good ones and bad ones.  Typical Gunner ride.  When he is good he feels like the best Training level horse ever, when he is bad we stop 30 ft away from the fences and throw a fit, doh.

I love that I'm not jumping ahead here, but wtf is up with my back?  Defensive riding at its best/worst.

I think part of our issue yesterday is that he is behind on his adequan shot...so his owner was off to the vet to get some substitute for it since adequan is still missing on the market.
